Sunset Artist Point Elopement | K. & D.

Picture Lake and Artist Point Elopement in the North Cascades

It was a sunny August day, perfect for a mountain elopement. Nature was still in full bloom, with long daylight hours. Even though it was hot at the foot of the mountains, a short drive higher and the heat was gone. We were able to capture both blooming meadows and snow-covered peaks in one frame.

How the Idea for an Elopement at Picture Lake and Artist Point Came About

K. and D. came all the way from Alabama to Washington especially for their elopement. They saw Artist Point online and fell in love with the spot. Knowing the North Cascades well, I suggested adding Picture Lake to their plan.

Artist Point and Picture Lake are just 10 minutes apart, and both spots offer breathtaking views. Even if you’re planning a short elopement, you can easily visit both and have two unique backdrops for your ceremony and vows.

Elopement Timeline and Activities in the North Cascades

We started the day at Picture Lake. We were incredibly lucky – it was clear, and Mt. Shuksan was in full view. Even better, it was unwinding and the lake was still, creating a perfect reflection of the mountain.

Given the fire season, I was keeping a close watch on the weather, but thankfully, the conditions were perfect for the big day.

At Picture Lake, we also took some fun cake-cutting shots. Instead of the usual formal cut, the couple simply held the cake, stuck forks in, and fed each other, adding a sweet personal touch.

After that, we headed to Artist Point for the elopement ceremony.

Elopement Ceremony at Artist Point

Normally, I help couples scout or suggest a spot for the ceremony. But this couple, together for 14 years, wanted a bit of spontaneity.

They loved Mt. Shuksan so much that we found a cozy place with a perfect view for their ceremony. My husband, Pasha, officiated as they exchanged rings and vows. It was such a beautiful and emotional moment.

For their first dance, they picked their favorite song.

Afterward, we signed the marriage certificate. I served as the first witness, as I often do when the elopement is just for two. We found the second witness among passing hikers – a lovely bride who was happy to help!

The day ended with a stunning sunset session. We adjusted the angle, and now the majestic Mt. Baker towered in the background of the photos. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we lit the lanterns and hung up the string lights.
