How the Couple Chose a Seattle Downtown Elopement
A. and J. are from Texas, and they originally chose Olympic National Park for their elopement, drawn to its iconic spots like Ruby Beach and the Hoh Rainforest. As they planned, they came across my work, fell in love with my style, and booked me for their day.
After we signed a contract and started planning, they filled out a questionnaire to share more about their personalities, relationships, and vision for the day. As I read their responses, I started to wonder if Olympic National Park was really the best fit for them. They loved unique restaurants, bars, wineries, coffee shops, and exploring cities with cool architecture—all things the remote park doesn’t offer.
I suggested we reconsider the location, and thankfully, with elopements, there are no rules. Soon, they felt the same way and decided to change their elopement to Seattle, where they could enjoy all the city life they loved.
Since they were big foodies—the bride even had a mini food blog—Seattle offered everything they wanted in a location.
Seattle Elopement Timeline and Activities
We started the day at the Airbnb in downtown Seattle, a historic home where the bride and the groom got ready and held their ceremony. My husband Pasha, who is also my best assistant, officiated. Since they helped each other get ready, they didn’t do a first look, but the groom surprised the bride by playing guitar for her before the ceremony.
After the couple exchanged vows, they toasted with French champagne they’d picked up at a Seattle wine tasting the day before. They signed the marriage certificate and then headed out for a relaxed city stroll, with a couple of hours set aside for window shopping.
We wandered through the city, stopping by unique galleries, exploring art and architecture, and eventually making our way to a coffee shop. Instead of a traditional cake-cutting, they each enjoyed a slice of cake there.
Next, we visited Seattle’s famous Suzzallo Library, which has a main hall that looks strikingly like Hogwarts. After a stroll through the nearby garden, we headed to a local bar where they sampled a few cocktails. As the evening settled in, we walked through Pike Place Market and down to the Waterfront to capture photos of the city lights.
